Equipment for DC transmissions and inserts

DC transmissions and inserts (DCTs and DCIs) solve a number of specific problems, including:

  • Provision of interconnections in power systems;
  • Non-synchronous connection of generating capacities;
  • Increased stability of the interconnected power systems;
  • Increase static and dynamic stability;
  • Reduction of short-circuit currents in electrical networks.


  • "STC Rosseti FGC UES" develops, manufactures and implements equipment for DC inserts and transmissions according to individual projects. The modernization of the Vyborg converter complex was one of the implemented projects for direct current transmissions and inserts (DCT and VPT).

    The Vyborg converter complex at the 400 kV Vyborgskaya substation is a direct current insertion (DCI) to supply electricity from the Russian Federation to Finland and from Finland to the Russian Federation. The Vyborg converter complex at the 400V Vyborgskaya substation is a direct current insertion (DCI) to ensure electricity supply from the Russian Federation to Finland and from Finland to the Russian Federation via the 400 kV Vyborgskaya substation (Russia) - Jullikkälä substation / Kymi substation (Finland).

    At the request of Rosseti FGC UES, specialists from JSC STC FGC UES developed and implemented BVPM-M-120/800 valve blocks with autonomous cooling systems.

    In 2019, the pilot operation of the BVPM-M valve block was successfully completed.

    In 2021, the project for comprehensive modernization of the entire converter equipment of the substation was launched. The project was launched in 2021 to comprehensively modernize the entire converter equipment of the substation on a new element base with new control algorithms.
